4.70.2 Explain the altimeter setting requirements for flight under VFR. CAR Part 91 & AIP ENR

This rule establishes the legal requirements for selecting and changing altimeter settings according to the aircraft’s altitude or flight level.

The detailed operational procedures are contained in AIP ENR 1.7, 2.2.

2.2 Altimeter Setting Procedures — New Zealand FIR

Within the New Zealand FIR, a pilot operating under VFR must maintain vertical position using the following altimeter settings:

At or below 13,000 feet:

Use the appropriate QNH altimeter setting.

Between 13,000 feet and FL150:

Use the altimeter setting advised by ATC.

At or above FL150:

Set the altimeter to the standard pressure setting of 1013.2 hPa and maintain vertical position by reference to a flight level.
